Coffee makers might take over the world someday. At least, that’s what I think with all the fantastic appliances that make brewing a cup of coffee more convenient than ever. A Keurig is a combination of several single-cup coffee brewers. But using one can be quite confusing. So how to use a Keurig is what I’m going to discuss in the article.
But before I do that, let me tell you how to set it up and cleanse the brew. This is considered to be an important step that makes using the machine easier and less complicated.
Initial Setup And Cleansing Brew
We’ll discuss the useful Keurig brewing instructions later. But first, it’s time to find out how to set up a Keurig and cleanse the brew.
Plug in the Appliance
Unbox the machine and get rid of all the tape that’s holding its components together. Then plug in the device. (The different parts of a KeurigVue V700)
Don’t forget to get your hands on the product’s user manual. You will find a lot of useful information in there. You can always refer to it to understand how to use the Keurig and even maintain it.
Discard its Shipping Disc
This particular step only applies to those models that have the shipping disc included in the package. You will find it in the unit’s pod attachment. All you need to do is lift the appliance’s handle to remove it.
If you’re anything like me, then you won’t discard the shipping disc in the bin. Instead, keep it safe along with Keurig’s user manual and original packaging. The chances of storing the appliance away from or moving, selling, or donating it after a few months or years are quite high. So you might require the shipping disc at such times.
Clean the Water Reservoir
If your model doesn’t have the unremovable version of the water tank, then move on to the next step. But if it does, you need to rinse it before using the machine. All you have to do is remove the reservoir to wash it using warm soapy water and a sponge or soft cloth.
Wipe the tank’s base as well. This is the entry point of water, and you need to make sure that nothing is blocking its way.
Prime the Water Filter
Again, if your brewer doesn’t have the charcoal filter kit, then don’t waste time reading this. But for the ones that do, don’t forget that these water filters require you to prime them in the following manner.
- Rinse the filter with cool water. You can do this for a minute because that’s how long it takes for the thing to soak up enough water.
- You can then soak it further but in a bowl full of water this time, and for five minutes.
- Massage the filter to ensure that all the loose charcoal falls away and doesn’t mix with your coffee.
Attach the Filter
Now is the time to insert the filter into the handle and snap it into the unit’s reservoir. You should know that the holder consists of two parts; the top handle and the bottom holder. You need to place the filter onto the appliance’s bottom part. The handle goes over this before you insert the filter inside the reservoir. It all seems to snap together properly.
Fill the Reservoir
Feel free to fill in tap water if you have a filter. But without one, only use filtered or spring water.
Press Power Button
Once you press that button, the preheating process begins. And this doesn’t take more than three minutes. Sometimes it even takes 20 seconds. It all depends on the type of model you own.
Place the Mug on the Machine’s Drip Tray
Some units come with a sensor, which only starts the brewing process when the cup is kept on its drip tray. But even if your model doesn’t have a sensor, try not to make a mess.
Time to Lift the Handle
At this point, you need to be raising and lower the handle. You should do this without placing the Keurig coffee pod. But don’t think that you can’t use the coffee pod. Since this is your cleansing brew, there’s no point in wasting all that coffee, right?
Select the Brew Setting
Please keep in mind that the brew setting should be one size up than your mug. The brewing process takes anywhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. At the end of which, you can rest assured knowing that your Keurig is ready to use!
This brings me to the main topic of the article, how to use a Keurig. So let’s get to that right away!
How To Use A Keurig?
What you will need:
- Water.
- Coffee mug.
- Keurig K-Cup or any other compatible pod.
The Procedure:
Choose the Pod and Grab the Mug
When it comes to K-Cups, your options are endless. But whatever you decide, make sure that it’s compatible with the Keurig model you own. Keurig consists of two types of brewing systems; Keurig 2.0 and Keurig 1.0. With the former, you can only brew K-Cup pods. And the latter brews K-Carafe, K-Vue, K-Mug, and K-Cup pods.
Attach the Pod
To insert that pod, all you have to do is lift the unit’s handle. Once the handle comes back down after you place the pod inside, the appliance pierces the bottom and top. And this is how the brewing system of Keurig works.
Choose the Right Settings
Now is the time to select the required settings. These include:
- Hot cocoa selector or any other beverage.
- Bold selector.
- Brew temperature.
- Brew size.
Press the BREW Button
The button might be in the form of any one of the following:
- Touch the display button.
- Physical button.
- No touch screen or physical button. Instead, the appliance begins brewing as soon as you lower the handle.
And that’s about it. Your hot cup of coffee is waiting for you right there!
Now You Know How To Use A Keurig!
Before I end the article, you should be aware that some models have the ability to brew in less than 60 seconds. On the other hand, there are a few units that take a longer time to reach the desired temperature.
I hope my instructions were simple to understand. I tried to break down the process as much as possible to make it seem less complicated. So tell me, what are your thoughts on this particular topic?
Have you ever used a Keurig before? How difficult was it for you to get used to the machine? Please don’t hesitate to leave your comments and even share the article if you like.
